Mike Russell has spent the past three decades working as a human resources and organizational development professional. After working for several years as an Internal Consultant with two different Fortune 500 financial services firms, Mike co-founded a health care benefits consulting firm in Kansas City that, within 5 years, grew to 50 employees with six offices and revenue of $7.5M.
In 1995, at the height of the first tech-bubble, Mike sold his principal interest in the benefits firm in Kansas City and relocated to Seattle, WA. Due to the plethora of startups within the area, Mike immediately started consulting with various high growth startups, primarily in the tech arena.
Then, in 1999, Mike was asked by a client, AT&T Wireless (who had recently acquired McGraw Cellular), to accept an internal role as a Project Manager to the M&A team while taking on the HR lead role for the B2B Division and it’s 3,500 employees scattered among seven call centers throughout the U.S.
Although, in 2001, when the tech sector imploded and many folks found themselves out of a job, Mike returned to the corporate world and accepted a newly created role as Director of HR for West Coast Operations of Hartford Insurance in San Diego.
However, in 2003, Hartford underwent its second organizational restructuring within two years and returned to the centralized structure they formerly had in place (pre-2000) and, rather than relocate to Hartford, CN, Mike chose to return to consulting and founded Organizational Development Solutions in San Diego, CA.
As a sole-proprietor, Mike partners with business leaders committed to insulating their organization(s) from potential liability, increasing organizational effectiveness and adding shareholder value. Consequently, Mike has worked with a host of clients in the private, public and non-profit sectors across a wide spectrum of industries.
